Breaking News!!! Applications for the third edition of CAMERIMUN have been launched

Following the groundbreaking realization of its first two editions in October 2017 and April 2019, Cameroon International Model United Nations (CAMERIMUN) conference has launched application for 2020. The 2020 edition, which will kick off in Cameroon — the heart of Africa — is the 1st diplomatic simulation of the United Nations in the Central African Region.

The 2020 edition of CAMERIMUN which will be held under the theme, ‘‘Youths promoting Agenda 2030’’, at the International Relations Institute Cameroon (IRIC), will run from 9th – 11th April. And for the first time, 4 Committees will be involved, being 3 in English and 1 in French. That is: UNDP, UN Women, UNHRC (all in English), and La Francophonie (in French).

‘‘The main aim of CAMERIMUN is to help students and recent graduates in Cameroon, Africa, and beyond to gain a deeper understanding of the workings of the United Nations’’, Sophie Monono, President of CAMERIMUN asserted.

CAMERIMUN has as mission, ‘‘to promote and encourage awareness, understanding, tolerance, and acceptance of different people, cultures, beliefs, and attitudes, by organising, sponsoring, and promoting Model United Nations conferences and other international events.’’

‘‘We believe that people’s involvement at all levels of decision making (local, national, and global) is essential in order to achieve the goals of the United Nations’’, Sophie stated.

CAMERIMUN 2020 is a highly anticipated event-of-the-year for students, aspiring diplomats, lovers of international relations, UN SDG promoters, and youths desiring to secure quality experience for their careers!

Participating in CAMERIMUN is an opportunity for one to develop practical skills that will enrich their professional profile. Such skills include, amongst others:

  • Public speaking (as delegates will engage in several public debates on contemporary issues),
Policy drafting (due to the preparation of official international documents like Position Papers and UN Resolutions),
  • Team building (as you will work in groups to find solutions and draft resolutions),
  • Leadership (as you will eventually lead blocks of nations with whom you share a common stance),
  • Negotiation and bargaining (given that delegates may have to lobby or advocate for the support of other nations to have a motion of interest, passed through), and
  • Research skills (based on research that is done before and during the simulations).

CAMERIMUN 2020 will enable delegates to adapt and collaborate in a multicultural environment, given that about 200 delegates are awaited from a variety of backgrounds.

The online application process is straightforward. Delegates will have the opportunity to choose the committee best-suited to their respective interest areas, and to take advantage of this unique hands-on experience in the heart of the African continent.

Therefore in April 2020, the event will convene young leaders from all over in the capital city of Yaoundé, Cameroon.
