Meet ATEH Thomson PEPEAH, AFREIN’s spotlight for November 2019.

This November 2019, Afro Real Initiative (AFREIN) spotlights ATEH Thomson PEPEAH from Cameroon: a charismatic noble man whose humility, empathy, and dedication to humanity represent in no little measure, his humble background, which he and many others remain especially proud of!

Be inspired to aspire, as you go through this phenomenal profile.

Who is ATEH Thomson PEPEAH?

ATEH Thomson PEPEAH is a young Cameroonian politician; an exemplary leader with a unique quest for youth involvement, particularly, in the political process as well as various other levels of decision making.

Born on June 6th, 1986 — to a supportive and hardworking driver, and a dedicated farmer and petit business woman, Thom’s humility, empathy, and dedication to humanity represent in no little measure, his humble background, which he remains especially proud of!

In 2013 at age 26 years, Thom’s interest in political inclusion and the need for a rejuvenation of the political space in Cameroon brought him to the limelight and closer to the legislators’ job than any youth has ever been. He became the youngest contestant — ever, for the political office of a Parliamentarian in the gerontocracy that Cameroon [in particular, and Africa at large] represent! Although losing to a much older and experienced politician, ‘The Honourable Attempted’ for Mezam Central Constituency, Bamenda – Cameroon, still works closely with youths towards realizing his dream for an inclusive political process, ‘‘…with the youths taking up political offices in a purely democratic manner, that puts them at centre for decision making, towards revising old laws, passing new ones and making relevant policy changes that meet the needs of African youths and their nations, in the 21st Century’s contemporary world”.

Early leadership/political career:

Student Leadership and Unionists Activism: 2006 – 2009

From Primary School level, as head-boy, ‘The Honorable Attempted’ started his political career, and later transcended into a charismatic figure in student leadership, leading from the front and actively reforming, innovating and setting the pace in various capacities. During his first year, at University, and after winning an independent election as Vice President of the University of Buea Economics Society (UBES), he pushed for a constitutional reform, despite huge oppositions — one, he later effected in 2008/2009 after winning another election as President of the largest and most focused departmental association, UBES, in the same University.

Liaising [well] with staff, and departmental officers and university [during his tenue], ATEH went further to win his place in the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Buea Student Union (UBSU), and thereafter, became the Deputy President of the University of Buea Student Union (UBSU).

National politics: 2009 – 2019

ATEH had a fore-thirst of full engagement in national politics at the age of 23, just as he graduated from his 3-year studies at the University of Buea. Young Thom, will get actively involved and inspired by the bold steps of his mentor, Lord Justice AYAH Paul ABINE, to persist in those footsteps of rationality [and] legal consciousness, that exhibit boldness and decisiveness. He became member of the then People’s Action Party (PAP), — now Popular Action Party, where he led, first, as Vice Secretary for Communication, and then Organizing Secretary during…elections. At that time, Thom was the youngest in the nine-member Council of the Wise — the highest body of authority in the party! His great oratory and articulate skills then got him the office of the National Communication Secretary, a position he’s held to date!

Thom is also a prolific and assiduous writer. He has authored eight books, co-authored one and published one — “Thinking Wealth and Riches”, with content to motivate youths out of inertia so that, they can gain financial freedom and become courageous enough to make free/independent decisions towards achieving whatever productive ends they so desire.
